Fab Dream, Literally. Sunday, February 07, 2016 1 Comment

I dream often, however most dreams end with me waking up in a panic or feeling anxious. Last night was different. It was still night time when I awoke and although, still half asleep, I knew that I did not want to forget this dream. I quickly grabbed my phone and started writing some notes to myself wondering/hoping it would all make sense in the morning. There is nothing better than feeling inspired and motivated when you dream. This was one of those dreams. One that I did not want to forget. One that I would want to blog about...

I was at a fab party with Fab Friend Rhonda. It was a super chic cocktail party similar to what I imagine the Oscar Vanity Fair Party looks/feels like. It was held at a restaurant that looked a lot like Cecconi's in West Hollywood. Rhonda and I entered the party and quickly got a glass of Perrier-Jouet Champage at the bar. I took a sip and soon noticed my friend, Bird (Brigitte) was seated at a table with a large group of people including the Fab O, that's right, the fabulous Oprah Winfrey. Obvi, I was going to need an introduction. I pointed out, Bird and Oprah to Rhonda and we soon made our way over to their table. I said hello to Bird and told her I wanted to meet Oprah and she quickly introduced us. Oprah did not disappoint and we soon were chatting it up. Oprah was lovely. She asked me a lot of questions and was sincerely interested in what I do. She was easy to talk to and truly felt like an old friend. She asked about my background and loved learning that my parents and I were Cuban refugees who came to America by boat with essentially the clothes on our backs. She praised my parents for inspiring my sister and I to follow our dreams and told me I should be very proud of my parents for all of their accomplishments. I couldn't agree more Oprah. I am. I told her about starting Fabulous People, LLC and about my apparel collection. She wanted to hear more. In the middle of this busy fabulous party, I had Oprah's undivided attention. Could she be the coolest celebrity I had ever met? Should she run for President? Yes and yes. I told her more and she soon shared my same excitement about my company and brand. This was insane. She wanted to know how she could help. Her allowing me to tell her my story seemed like enough, but she wanted to do more. She told me she thought my product sounded amazing and that she wanted to include it in her annual Oprah's "Favorite Things" list. Awesome!!! She also said she was planning a big party at her Montecito Estate and wanted to purchase sweatshirts for her gift bags. Amazing!!! Talk about great product placement, getting my collection on Oprah's A List friends. This was unreal. We exchanged information and Oprah said she was off to another party, but would love it if I would drive with her to the next event. Duh, In! I said yes and told Rhonda and Bird that I would see them at the next party. Oprah and I were off.

We walked outside, however Oprah couldn't locate her driver among the sea of cars in the Cecconi parking lot. No worries, I told her, I'll request an Uber. We kept chatting and I soon got a notification from my Uber driver that he was outside. Awesome, we'll be right out. Because, I was with Oprah I decided to splurge on an Uber Lux and was excited to see that a new Tesla would be picking us up. We located our car and got in. I immediately noticed that our driver was Alexander Wang. What? Turns out, Alexander likes to drive for Uber part-time as inspiration. Crazy, but ok, I kind of get it?!? This was turning out to be quite a night.  I'm a huge fan of Alexander Wang and was surprised when I read that he was leaving his post as Creative Director at Balenciaga. Why was Alexander leaving Balenciaga? I had to know. I asked and he told us that  although, it had been an awesome opportunity he wanted to focus all of his time and energy on growing his own brand. I totally get it. Same. Oprah and he had never met, but were each big fans of one another. When we arrived at our next party I asked him if he wanted to join us. He was beyond polite and thanked us for the invitation, however turns out he is painfully shy and doesn't enjoy parties. Go figure. I gave him my card and told him I was a new designer/creative director of my own apparel brand and suggested we grab dinner or drinks at some point. He said he would love that and I believe him. Epic. As Oprah and I exited the car and started walking towards the event. All of sudden someone tapped Oprah's shoulder. It was Lady Gaga. She looked stunning and was super glamorous. They hugged and kissed and Oprah said Gaga needed to meet me. So awesome. Gaga shook my hand and introduced me to her fiancé, Taylor Kinney. They could not have been any cuter together and the four of us were quickly ushered into the party by a very efficient PR girl. So rad. This party was insane. Much bigger and busier then the Cecconi party. What a scene. Oprah and I ordered Old Fashioned cocktails and continued talking with Gaga and Taylor. After a few sips of her cocktail, Oprah told us it was time for her to go. Gaga, Taylor and I all pleaded with her to stay, but Oprah said it was getting late and she was exhausted. Class act that one, was she really turning down an open bar? She gave us all hugs and kisses and told me she would call soon. She said she was serious about wanting to help and that she wasn't a bull shitter. She's the best. I talked with Gaga and Taylor for a little bit longer before spotting Rhonda and Bird. What a night!! Talk about fabliving!!! And just like that, the night was over and I woke up. Such a fab dream.

I have never met Oprah, Alexander Wang, Lady Gaga or Taylor Kinney however, after last night's dream I look forward to adding them to my roster of Fab Friends. Hopefully soon...
